Sunday is Snippet Day .....

It's week 42 of Jules' Sunday Snippet Challenge over at Always With A Heart. I can't believe it's already been 42 weeks. I remember the Sunday Jules' set the challenge for herself and thought it was a good idea so I joined in.

Sadly, I haven't made a dent in my snippets; I think those scraps of paper procreate at night while I'm sleeping. LOL!! Of course my snippet box isn't just cut scraps from some other project. A heavy number of my scraps/snippets are cards that didn't turn out so the whole thing gets dumped into the scrap box. That is the case with todays card.

This card was originally intended for Less Is More (Wk34 Sketch Challenge) and the snippet challenge for week 38. Obviously it never made it to either challenge. Today as I was digging for some white card stock I decided to give it another go. I trimmed down the original single layer base then added a nice framed layer of black and popped it back onto a different base card. I added some black Stickles to the butterfly to give it some sparkle as it looked kind of dull next to the speciality paper. Though I don't really care for the sentiment, and may try and wiggle it off, over all I'm very please with this second version. The sentiment is there because it was the placment for the sketch challenge; however I don't like sentiments dropped in big open spaces. I tend to keep everything together if I add a sentiment at all. If I manage to get rid of that sentiment without doing damage to the card I'll repost a picture.

The card stock is retired SU! Presto Patterns Speciality paper; the Crushed Curry ink and colored card stock is also retired. The Spellbinder dies are from the Fancy Tags One and Fleur de Lis squares. The pearls are Kaisercraft and the butterfly is Martha Stewart. Unfortunately I can't remember which set the sentiment came from, but it's SU!.

Below is one of the pictures I took of the card before it hit the bin last month. The jewelry was too much with only the curry frame on and single layer base. I'm sure I'll try and use the jewelry piece again, and hopefully it will work out next time.

  1. Hi Carole

Lovely to see you in the snippet playground this week with such a lovely make.

I can't believe this little beauty was cast aside!! :-(

I love both versions of your card and must admit I was quite taken with your little sentiment. I will be intrigued to see how it looks if it does get "wiggled away"!

That piece of jewellery is gorgeous too!!!

Thank you for sharing in the snippet playground this week.

    Love Jules xx

  2. I love your re-do. I totally agree with your assessment that the jewelry might be too much, but your use of a black butterfly is perfect! The curry background becomes a perfect spotlight!

  3. I can`t believe you didn`t post this one for LiM. The colour is glorious although I agree the jewelry might have been a bit heavy. Looks great with the butterfly though and I quite like the sentiment where it is.

  6. Gorgeous colours Carole - I agree the butterfly is more suitable than the brooch when placed on the corner of the square. Have you tried the piece of jewellery slap bang in the centre of the yellow square, with just 4 black brads - one on each corner, INSIDE the black border? It would make a great centre-piece on a square card. It would be a shame not to use that gorgeous embellishment.

  7. It's GORGEOUS and I adore the striking colours you've used.

I always find yellow a difficult colour to put on my cards, but you've excelled. Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. Great post - I really enjoyed reading about how you recycled and re-constructed this card ... it's gorgeous. Yellow is such a difficult colour I find, but here it looks great. Elizabeth x

  9. I think you're right about the remake, the butterfly is more delicate than the ornament - and I'm eager to see what you do with the ornament on another card!
